Pre-Juniors

Overview

The Club's Pre-Junior program is a modified hockey program that caters for children from Kindy to School Year 4. The children play with their age group peers i.e. kindy and pre-primary (Minkeys), school years 1 & 2 (Graduates) and school years 3 & 4 (Post-Graduates).

The program aims to provide an introduction to the sport with an emphasis on keeping physically active, having fun and making new friends. Players are split into small teams, usually being a mix of girls and boys (grouped in schools or with friends where possible), and participate in development training on a Friday afternoon on the Turf at the Troy Pickard Hockey Centre in Warwick, and small informal games on a Saturday morning on the grass pitches at the Kingsway Sporting Complex in Madeley. The players learn basic skills through fun activities and game situations with the help of their volunteer coaches.

At years 3 & 4 (Post Graduates) the children are introduced to playing on a 3/4 field in full Club playing uniforms sometimes against other clubs. The season is also mixed in with the occasional carnival. Coaches and managers usually come from amongst the parents.

Teams are limited in size to allow for maximum participation and places can’t be guaranteed so please register early to avoid disappointment.

New players are welcome at any time during the season!
